We are thrilled to share that GO was one of just 26 non-profit organizations nationwide selected from a pool of over 500 applicants for The Kresge Foundation’s new “FreshLo” initiative!
FreshLo is a new joint effort by Kresge’s Arts & Culture Program and Health Program. FreshLo stands for “Fresh, Local & Equitable: Food as Creative Platform for Neighborhood Revitalization”, and is aimed at strengthening low-income communities across the country.
The $70,000 planning grant will be used to strengthen GO’s mission-driven food programs, including the Southside Kitchen and Southside Community Garden, and contribute to the creative revitalization of Asheville’s Southside neighborhood. In the coming months, we’ll establish a planning group comprised of community members, representatives of partner organizations, and GO staff.
Together, the group will develop an implementation plan to guide the growth of GO’s community-centered food programs in the coming years. We aim to utilize this grant to strengthen local healthy food initiatives, promote community health, and create thriving community spaces that celebrate the Southside neighborhood’s rich history through food, arts, and culture.
We look forward to working closely with our neighbors and partners on this project.
