Green Opportunities (GO) is pleased to announce that the GO Build program was approved as a Provisional Affiliate of the YouthBuild USA Affiliated Network on September 9.
As a YouthBuild Provisional Affiliate, GO will have access to leadership opportunities for program staff, technical assistance, resources, conferences, and advocacy for issues affecting low-income youth.
The YouthBuild USA Affiliated Network is a network of non-profit organizations located throughout the United States that administer local programs designed by YouthBuild USA for low-income young people who range in age from 16 to 24.
These local YouthBuild Programs are intended to help young people to obtain either GEDs or high school diplomas while learning job skills by building affordable housing for homeless and low-income people as well as by participating in leadership development activities in their communities.
Integral to GO Build–our 9-month construction trades training program–is the Home Builder’s Institute (HBI) Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training (PACT) curriculum. The HBI PACT curriculum is one of only three U.S. Department of Labor recognized pre-apprenticeship curricula. It integrates contextual, work-based learning with vocational and academic skills training in the classroom, including job and life skills, career development, and paid on-the-job training. Students earn a stipend during the program. We look forward to incorporating YouthBuild standards and best practices into our training program in the coming months.
