Arthur R. Edington Education & Career Center

Green Opportunities’ offices are locate0204151027d within the Arthur R. Edington Education & Career Center, situated at 133 Livingston Street in Asheville, North Carolina.

Here, we have access to high-quality classrooms, a community computer resource lab, the Southside Construction workshop, the Southside Kitchen, and the Southside Community Garden.

The Edington Center is located in Asheville’s Southside neighborhood, where it serves as a symbol for community sustainability and education. We share space in this building with wonderful community partners, including the Housing Authority of the City of Asheville,  the Residents Council of the Asheville Housing Authority, Upfront Management Sports Agency and Partners Unlimited.

Formerly known as the W.C. Reid Center, this building was originally the African American Livingston Street School and was turned into a Parks and Recreation center after the integration of schools. The Edington Center was purchased by the Asheville Housing Authority in August of 2012 and underwent a three-year renovation. The center was rededicated in November 2014.

One major goal of the renovation was to make the building more energy efficient. This has been achieved through geothermal heating and cooling systems, new restrooms with water conservation features, new windows and energy efficient lighting throughout the building. GO students and graduates were employed in the renovation of the Edington Center.
