GO Weatherization Assistance Training Team

WHAT IS GO WATT?

The GO Weatherization Assistance Training Team (GO WATT) is a paid apprenticeship program designed to further prepare GO Youth Team graduates for clean energy careers while improving the efficiency of houses in target Asheville neighborhoods. A partnership with Community Action Opportunities, the program provides free energy audits and weatherization services to qualified homeowners while providing on-the-job training for previously unemployed young adults.

QUICK FACTS

  • The average family spends $100 on lighting their home a year (1000 kW hours at $0.10/kW hour). The same home with compact fluorescent bulbs would cost only $30.
  • Over 20% of the average home's heating and cooling is lost through duct leakage. Properly sealing the ducts that provide your heating and cooling could save hundreds of dollars over the course of a year.
  • Air leaks in your attic, crawl space, and basement add up. A 1200 ft2 home may have leaks that add up to an area of 360 in2 or more. That's like having a 3 ft. hole in your through which your heated air is lost.

WHAT IS WEATHERIZATION?

Improving a building or home to reduce heat loss (in the winter) and heat gain (in the summer).

HOW CAN YOU BENEFIT FROM WEATHERIZATION?

Save money on your monthly utility bills, increase overall comfort, reduce drafts and humidity (the less humidity in a home the less likely you are to provide an environment for mold and pests), and improve your indoor air quality.

WHAT  DOES WEATHERIZATION INVOLVE?

Air-sealing (caulking and spray foam), insulation, duct sealing, and weather-stripping.

HOW ELSE CAN I SAVE MONEY AND REDUCE MY ENERGY USAGE AND CO2 EMISSION?

Install compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), water heater jackets, faucet aerators, and insulate piping (all are included in service).

HOW CAN I RECEIVE YOUR FREE WEATHERIZATION SERVICE?
