350: International Day of Action

Oct 23 2009
By: Sara Kinney

Why 350?
Because scientists are telling us that 350 parts per million (ppm) is the maximum amount of atmospheric CO2 that would enable Earth to be a safe home for humans, not to mention all our non-human cohabitants. Right now we're at 387 ppm.

Where's the Action?
All over the globe, individuals and organizations are taking part in this October 24 day of service in an effort to reduce CO2 emissions. Some people are working to change legislation, some are developing public awareness, and others are volunteering at myriad service projects in their communities.

How is GO taking part?
The Green Opportunities Energy Team is joining together with Americorps and over 70 volunteers to weatherize 5 homes in the Burton St. Weed-n-Seed community in West Asheville. Click here to download the flyer.

What can I do?
Visit www.asheville350.org to see what's happening in Asheville. Join local environmental activists at Asheville City Hall from 2-4 pm for a Climate Action Rally. Not in Asheville? Visit www.350.org to see what's happening in your area.

Remember, 350 is not just a day. The day of service is a symbol of the ongoing effort needed to ensure a healthy future for us all.
