Dan Leroy, Co-Founder, Co-Director

In his words: Dan co-founded GO in 2008 out of his long-time pursuit of projects that restore people, communities and the planet. Originally from Connecticut, Dan spent most of his adult life in northern California before moving to North Carolina in 2007. He enjoys riding his bike in the mountains, practicing Tai Chi, and hanging with his wife and two boys, Leif and Kai.

In his words: DeWayne, also known as Blove, does a little bit of everything in and outside of the GO offices. His most important role, though, is creating connections and awareness throughout the Asheville communities. Outside of work, DeWayne enjoys creating sculptures that focus on social and environmental justice issues from trash and recycled items. He also enjoys writing poetry and making music.

In his words: Torin Kexel helped establish Green Opportunities and the GO Energy Team in the spring of 2008. Deeply moved by the co-founders commitment to rebuilding communities through green jobs, Torin spent most of the early days coaxing trainees to crawl around in attic insulation looking for air leaks to seal. As the Training Director he currently splits time between teaching weatherization and administering training programs related to building performance. When not working Torin can usually be found on the basketball court, or hiking and travelling with his wife.

In her words: My job is to plan and teach the activities that allow our students to gain life skills, work soft skills and vocational skills; get youth out into their communities to contribute hands-on work that improve their neighborhoods; help youth discover their potentials, interests and their passions; connect youth with other available resources; and are fun and interesting enough to bring them back. When I'm not planning or teaching, I am hiking with my family, gardening, working on house improvement projects or volunteering as a Guardian Ad Litem.
