Red Cross Energy Audit |
Asheville's Red Cross staff are top of the line when it comes to saving lives, but when it came time to save money on their energy bill, they found that they had a lot of room for improvement. The GO Team worked with Conservation Pros to perform an energy audit on the Red Cross building and find ways to lower their overall energy consumption. This was our first time working in this field and that made it a pretty interesting week for us.

Scraper Bikes: “Bike 4 Life Ride” |

Since the Scraper Bike video debuted two years ago, they've become much more: a practical means of greening urban space, a social movement, and a rallying point for young people organizing against violence in their communities. Tyrone "Baby Champ" Stevenson, who styles himself the Scraper Bike King, says the first scraper bikes were created by Oakland teens who coveted, but could not afford, scraper cars --... [Read More] |

Where's the Action? All over the globe, individuals and organizations are taking part in this October 24 day of service in an effort to reduce CO2 emissions. Some people are working to change legislation, some are developing public awareness, and others are volunteering at myriad service projects in their communities.... |

NYTimes Reports on Toxic Water in West Virginia |
Jennifer Hall-Massey knows not to drink the tap water in her home near Charleston, W.Va. In fact, her entire family tries to avoid any contact with the water. Her youngest son has scabs on his arms, legs and chest where the bathwater — polluted with lead, nickel and other heavy metals — caused painful rashes. Many of his brother’s teeth were capped to replace enamel that was eaten away. [Read More] | ![]() |

Mining companies are clear-cutting thousands of acres of some of the world's most biologically diverse forests. They're burying biologically crucial headwaters streams with blasting... |
